RHS Alumni Scholarship Application Paper

The future is a completely undefinable thing. It changes with age and decisions and time. When we were little our parents and teachers would ask us what we wanted to be when we were older. We would tell them things like policeman, firefighter, artist, and rockstar, but now that we are older and we actually have to give them a serious answer, we have to decide. We have to know what we want to do, and how we are going to do it. We have to know exactly how we are going to achieve our dreams. So here is my answer. I want to be a writer.
The written word is a very powerful thing, and I know that I can make a difference with it. I want to study literature, poetry, and creative writing so that I can make an impact in people's lives, and I am willing to do what it takes to get there. I want poetry and literature to speak to other people the way that it has spoken to me.  I am going to improve my GPA by re-taking classes my senior year to get into college. I am going to work my way through school, and do the best that I can in my classes. I will take as many English, literature, poetry, and writing classes as I can to get where I need to be with my writing to get published. I will major in English Literature, Poetry, and Writing, and get a teaching degree while I write at home. I will teach and work as hard as I can to get my work published, and even if I cant I can still change people by teaching. I would do anything to get my work published and out in the world, and I would do anything with my writing to change other's lives.

  1. This essay isn’t done! You need to finish your thoughts and be specific! Your essay is too general and doesn't talk about the path you will take in order to get to your desination. Because you say that you want to be a writer, you need to prove it with your writing! The second paragraph is choppy and has the same sentence stater a number of times. I made comments and corrections on your essay and saved it to the expos folder in classroom 2, student essays, college applications and scholarships. If you don't like your grade, fix the paper and re-post it!
