Son of Man and the Secret
In The Secret Revealed, Gandhi says, “A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” (11) If a man focuses on what he desires in a positive manner, eventually he will receive it. The lecture says that the Universe is basically a big holding basket. It will accommodate itself to your need. If you are focusing on what you do not want, then the universe will attract it to you. However, if you focus on what you do want, the same thing will happen. You will attract what you want to you. In the Disney movie, Tarzan, an orphan boy is taken in by a mother gorilla that has recently lost her own baby. As he grows up, all Tarzan wants to do is to fit in with the rest of the gorillas in the troop. Because this is what he focuses on, Tarzan is able to prove himself to the troop leader Kerchak, and is accepted as the troop’s new leader. Tarzan stayed positively focused on what he really wanted, just like The Secret tells us to do if we are to truly achieve something that we desire. Positive, determined thoughts will give positive results. As you read, this essay will show the connections between the movie and The Secret through the main character, Tarzan, the movie’s plot, and a song directly from the movie. I will show you the importance of details from The Secret, as well as the movie, for your day to day life where positive, encouraging thinking is involved.
Tarzan, wanting nothing more than to fit in with the other gorilla troop’s children, attempts a dare, challenged by his cousin Terk, to win their approval. He has to try to get a hair from the tail of an elephant. In doing so, Tarzan causes a stampede even though he succeeds in getting the hair. The stampede makes the troop leader Kerchak absolutely furious because Tarzan could have seriously hurt, or even killed one of them. Kala begs him to give Tarzan another chance, but Kerchak says, “He will never learn. You can’t learn to be one of us! Kala, look at him! He will never be one of us!”
Kerchak’s comment really hurts Tarzan. He runs away, and later that night Kala finds him by a river. Tarzan, full of frustration and anger, asks his mother why he is so different. She shows him that he has two eyes, a nose, two ears, two hands, and a beating heart just like she does. “See,” she tells him, “we’re exactly the same. Kerchak just can’t see that.” Tarzan is now full of determination to prove himself to Kerchak. “Then I’ll make him see it. I’ll be the best ape ever!”
One of the featured songs in the movie is Son of Man written by Phil Collins. The lyrics describe that there is a journey to be taken, and that there will be questions that you will need answered. “Oh, and all the things you dreamed of The visions that you saw Well, the time is drawing near now It's yours to claim it all” Just like the song says, and the Secret as well, you can easily achieve your dreams when you are ready. All it takes is a positive thought and a little determination. Einstein says, “You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.” With a negative attitude, or with negative thoughts, you will not be able to get where you want to be. You will not be able to play the game. Although, if you learn the way the world works, and you learn how the Secret works for you personally, you can play the game in any way you want to the point of where you play better than anyone else.
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” (Winston Churchill) Having a negative, or pessimistic, outlook on life will bring you down. The bad or hurtful things you think about will begin to come to you in waves that will be hard to handle. If you have a positive or optimistic outlook on life, the result will be the opposite. You will attract the things you truly desire. “The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.” Everything in your life happens for a reason. Whether it is what you attract into your life, or what others attract into it, everything happens for a distinct reason. “You've done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.”
Before the movie Tarzan was made, Walt Disney had a dream. Obvious or not, he did use the Secret. He used a strong, positive way of thinking to get what and where he wanted. Walt Disney said, “Somehow I can’t believe there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C’s. They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy and the greatest of these is Confidence. When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.” Walt Disney believed that anything and everything is possible. He believed in a world of imagination and opportunity, and he used every part of it to his advantage.
Tarzan stayed positively focused on what he really wanted, just like The Secret tells us to do if we are to truly achieve something that we desire. Positive, determined thoughts will give positive results. He did everything he could to get what he wanted, and in the end he did. He earned the love and trust of the troop’s leader, and was accepted. Positive thoughts will always get you farther in your life than negative pessimistic ones. Believe in imagination, and believe in the opportunity that the world can give you. Use everything you can to your advantage, and anything and everything you do will be fabulous. Remember, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”
